About Us
Jagriti is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The core aim of Jagriti is to work for the Empowerment of poor, rural hill women. Currently our area of operation extends over mainly three valleys of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. These are Lug valley, Pahnala and the Gadsa valley. Jagriti works through a network of Women’s Savings and Credit Groups, which now number over 140 with an active membership of over 1400 women spread across 25 panchayats in the district and some in Chamba.
Our work revolves around promoting new and alternative income enhancement opportunities, encouraging adoption of drudgery reducing and energy efficient devices and conservation and sustainable harvest of non timber forest produce from the wild. We have, over the years successfully developed value added products from locally available semi wild fruit like apricot and peach and also striven to market disappearing traditional crops such as buckwheat, millets and so forth.
We believe that poverty can be sustainably conquered by empowering Women.
